Really Simple Syndication

Really Simple Syndication, more commonly known as RSS, is a technology used for web syndication. There are two angles to look at it… from the Webmasters perspective, or the Readers.

Webmasters can use our RSS feeds on their own websites ;) Check out this RSS Tutorial.

Otherwise, we’ve put together a list of RSS Readers which you can use to read BandAMP’s feeds. On the bottom of the page you will find a listing of available feeds and also a description on how to create a podcast! Interested? Read on…

Macintosh Readers

NewsFire is an RSS news reader developed by David Watanabe. It supports Atom, RSS, and Podcasting. NewsFire feature groups, labels, smart groups, search, and integration with iTunes, Spotlight, and weblog editors. NewsFire can also import and export a blogroll from and to OPML.
NetNewsWire is a commercial news aggregator, featuring a three-paned interface similar to Apple Computer’s Mail client. It was developed by Brent and Sheila Simmons for their company Ranchero Software. They also develop a free lite version of NetNewsWire that doesn’t include some of the advanced features of the commercial version.

Windows Readers

NewzCrawler is a RSS/Atom reader, news aggregator, web browser / blog client all in one. It gathers news content and displays them in a variety of ways: News List, News Balloon and News Ticker. NewzCrawler’s user interface is similar to an ordinary MS Outlook Express-like user interface.
FeedDemon is a RSS Feed Reader created and developed by Nick Bradbury. It features tabbed browsing and the ability to synchronize with Bloglines and NewsGator Online. FeedDemon was recently purchased by the same company which develops NetNewsWire.

Linux Readers

Straw is the best aggregator for GNOME. Requires PyGTK, libglade 2.4, gnome-python 2.0, Berkeley DB 3 or 4 and their Python bindings, ADNS library and the corresponding Python binding are highly recommended for smoother operation, but Straw will work without them.

Podcast!

(1) Find an MP3 you like, here is my example. (2) Now, copy the number out of the url… mine would be “1527”. (3) Then point that number to the /amp_files/ directory… here is the finished product.

You may also replace the url extension with .m3u to directly open in iTunes or WinAmp.
